Baby, Mama invented this cobbler the year U-Pick blueberry season ran into Thanksgiving.
It was July. Daddy bought 15lbs of blueberries from the Farmers Market “because they were cheap.” It was November. Mama had 3 bags of frozen cranberries from last year’s turkey day sale. Mama wanted something sweet but not TOO sweet.
So Mama dumped ‘em together. Tart cranberries + sweet blueberries + Bisquick drop biscuits = the cobbler that shut up everybody at one time.
This is church cookbook easy. No rolling pins. No pie crust. Just stir the fruit, drop the biscuits, bake. You can make the filling now and freeze it. Bake it in July, bake it Thanksgiving, bake it when Pawpaw needs comfort food.
Tart + sweet + buttery + cinnamon sugar on top. Serve it hot with Blue Bell Vanilla and watch Pawpaw propose to you again.
Let’s make it.
Why Mama’s Blueberry Cranberry Cobbler Works Year-Round
`1. Uses frozen fruit: Fresh blueberries in July. Frozen cranberries from Thanksgiving. Or both frozen in March. Nana’s pantry flexible.
`2. Make now, bake later: Assemble the fruit filling. Freeze in the dish. Top with fresh biscuits day-of. Future Nana looks organized.
`3. Bisquick drop biscuits: No rolling, no cutting. Drop ‘em like Nana drops truth bombs. Rustic = pretty.
`4. Tart-sweet balance: Cranberries keep it from being too sweet. Blueberries keep it from puckering. Perfect for Pawpaw who hates “too sweet” desserts.
`5. Feeds 10: 9x13 pan = church potluck, family reunion or Tuesday when all 7 grands show up “starving.”

INGREDIENTS:
For the Fruit Filling:
- 3 cups fresh blueberries – or frozen, do not thaw
- 2 cups fresh or frozen cranberries – whole, not dried
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar – add 1/4 cup more if you hate tart
- 1/4 cup light brown sugar, packed
- 3 Tbsp cornstarch – or 1/4 cup flour
- 1 Tbsp lemon juice – fresh
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 2 Tbsp butter, cut in small pieces
For the Bisquick Drop Biscuits:
- 2 1/4 cups Bisquick baking mix
- 2/3 cup milk – whole milk for Nana
- 3 Tbsp melted butter
- 2 Tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
For the Top:
- 2 Tbsp sugar + 1/2 tsp cinnamon – mixed
INSTRUCTIONS:
Step 1: Prep Oven + Pan
Preheat oven to 375°F. Grease a 9x13 glass baking dish. Glass shows off that bubbly fruit – Nana likes pretty, sha.
Step 2: Make Fruit Filling
In big bowl, toss 3 cups blueberries + 2 cups cranberries with 3/4 cup granulated sugar, 1/4 cup brown sugar, 3 Tbsp cornstarch, 1 Tbsp lemon juice, 1 tsp vanilla, 1/2 tsp cinnamon, 1/4 tsp salt. Stir till berries are coated and sugar starts to melt. Pour into 9x13 dish. Dot top with 2 Tbsp butter pieces.
Step 3: Mix Drop Biscuits
In same bowl – Nana hates dishes – stir Bisquick, 2/3 cup milk, 3 Tbsp melted butter, 2 Tbsp sugar, 1 tsp vanilla. Stir 10 times till just combined. Lumpy batter = tender biscuits. Smooth batter = tough biscuits.
Step 4: Drop + Sprinkle
Use 1/4 cup scoop or big spoon. Drop batter in 12 mounds over fruit. Don’t spread. Gaps are good – fruit bubbles up. Mix 2 Tbsp sugar + 1/2 tsp cinnamon. Sprinkle over biscuits.
Step 5: Bake
Bake 45-50 min till biscuits are golden brown and fruit is bubbling thick around edges. If biscuits brown too fast, tent foil for last 10 min.
Step 6: Cool 20 Minutes
Nana knows it’s hard. But molten fruit = burned tongues. 20 min lets it thicken. Scoop warm. Top with Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla. Watch Pawpaw’s eyes roll back.
Nana’s Make-Ahead + Freezer Tricks
Make Now, Bake Later
Mix fruit filling. Pour in freezer-safe 9x13. Wrap tight. Freeze 3 months. Thaw overnight in fridge. Top with fresh biscuits + bake.
Bake Now, Reheat Later
Bake whole cobbler. Cool completely. Cover + fridge 4 days. Reheat 350°F for 20 min covered.
Individual Servings
Bake in these 8 oz ramekins. 25-30 min. Freeze unbaked. Bake from frozen 35 min.
Thanksgiving Prep
Make filling Nov 1. Freeze. Nov 27 = dump in pan, top with biscuits, bake. Nana’s not cooking while turkey’s in.
Only Fresh Blueberries
Use 5 cups blueberries + 1 Tbsp extra lemon juice. Skip cranberries. Still good, but not tart-sweet magic.
What If Nana Don’t Have...
`No Bisquick? 2 cups flour + 1 Tbsp baking powder + 1 tsp salt + 1/4 cup cold butter cut in. But Nana keeps Bisquick for cobbler emergencies.*
`No fresh cranberries? Use 1 bag frozen – do NOT thaw. Or 1 cup dried cranberries + 1/4 cup orange juice. Soak 10 min first.
`Too tart? Add 1/4 cup more sugar to fruit. Or serve with extra vanilla ice cream. Nana’s not the sugar police.
`Biscuits pale? Brush tops with milk before cinnamon sugar. Or broil 1 min at end – watch like a hawk.

When Nana Serves This Cobbler
*July:* Fresh blueberries + frozen cranberries from last year. “Christmas in July”
Thanksgiving: After turkey. Beats pumpkin pie with the grands.
New Neighbor: Bring warm in dish. You’ll be Pearl River’s favorite Nana by sunset.
`From Nana’s Kitchen: This recipe started as a mistake. Mama was out of peaches. Had blueberries. Had cranberries. Church cookbook said “use what you got.” So Mama did. Now it’s the most requested cobbler at every family reunion. Tart keeps Pawpaw interested. Sweet keeps the grands quiet. Bisquick keeps Nana sane.
