I live 15 minutes from the Honey Island Swamp.
That means my bathroom has to do 2 jobs:
1. Wash off the Gulf Coast humidity and
2. calm Pawpaw’s bad knee after a day of fishing.
After a lifetime in South Louisiana, I figured out how to make it feel like a French Quarter spa without the Hotel Monteleone price tag.
I have been a Certified Aromatherapist since 2013. These 5 things are actually in my bathroom right now.
All under $25.
1. BAMBOO BATH TRAY
Why it’s Cajun: Holds gumbo and sweet tea during a bath. Holds Pawpaw’s Louis L’Amour paperback.
NanaTee’s Rule: If it can’t hold a bowl of shrimp & grits, it’s too dainty for Louisiana.

2. DIY Peppermint Sugar Scrub
Why it’s Cajun: This is sugar cane country! Peppermint eases our sore muscles and clears our sinuses.
NanaTee’s Recipe: 1 cup solid coconut oil + 2 cups white sugar + 8 drops Peppermint Oil. Mix with a spoon so the sugar don't melt in your hands. Store in mason jar.
NanaTee’s Rule: Label it “Pawpaw’s Scrub” so the grandkids don’t eat it. Happened once.

3. MUSLIN BAGS WITH LAVENDER
Why it’s Cajun: My Aunt Lois hung these in the linen closet. Keeps towels smelling like a garden, not a swamp.
NanaTee’s Rule: 2 drops lavender oil per bag on some cotton balls. Refill monthly. This is what I put on Pawpaw’s pillow too. He sleeps like a baby!

4. FLEUR-DE-LIS TOWEL HOOKS
Why it’s Cajun: If it doesn’t have a fleur-de-lis, is it even from Louisiana?
NanaTee’s Rule: Command hooks. No holes in my beadboard. Pawpaw’s tools stay in the shed.

5. DIFFUSER WITH “BAYOU BLEND”
Why it’s Cajun: Smells like home after a thunderstorm.
NanaTee’s Recipe: 3 drops lemon + 2 drops cypress + 1 drop peppermint. Call it “Bayou Morning.”
NanaTee’s Rule: Runs during NCIS. Shuts off before Pawpaw falls asleep. No candles.

WHY TRUST MY BATHROOM?
I’m Tina, a Certified Aromatherapist since 2013. I’ve used essential oils on my family since then.
But I’m not a doctor. This is what works in my house for everyday comfort. Talk to your healthcare provider before you try new things, especially with oils.
Everything here passed my Toothbrush Rule: If I won’t use it on Pawpaw or myself, I don’t share it.
